What It’s Like to Work at Vibes – Meet our 2019 Interns

Achieving our recognition as a Leader in Gartner’s 2019 Magic Quadrant for Mobile Marketing Platforms or continuing to grow our 20 years of mobile marketing expertise would not be made possible without the hard work and dedication from all Vibes peeps. Each employee plays an important role in the many moving puzzle pieces that keep our projects moving forward – especially our interns. 

We’d like to take a moment to highlight the bright, fearless, and intelligent interns that are working with Vibes today, as we are very grateful for all their hard work day in and day out. Let’s meet the team! 


Aubrey previously studied Marketing Honors & Economics at DePaul University, in Chicago. 

What is special about Vibes? 

I feel really fortunate to be a part of the Vibes team. My team really worked with me to provide me with opportunities to learn, grow, and contribute to the team while still going to school. The support and encouragement that I received/continue to receive is something that sets Vibes apart from the rest.  Additionally, Vibes really values their employees and wants them to succeed. The leadership team is constantly looking at every employee to present them with opportunities to grow, lead, and advance within the company.  

What excites you about the growth of mobile usage? Where do you see the future of mobile marketing headed? 

What excites me about the growth of mobile usage is the opportunities that it provides to brands. From ordering goods, to scheduling appointments, mobile is the primary channel that consumers are moving towards for these needs. Mobile provides brands with a fantastic opportunity to build strong customer relationships that ultimately drive sales and loyalty. On the other hand, the future of mobile marketing is what really gets me excited. As of now I see the future of mobile marketing focusing around the adoption of mobile wallet. With millennial's and Generation Z being able to go shopping and pay, scan their loyalty card, and/or redeem offers all from their phone, it allows for a seamless user experience that can surprise and delight customers.  

Courtland Nicholas

Courtland previously studied International Business at Loyola University Chicago. 

What is special about Vibes? 

Vibes has manifested a culture where people truly care about each other and hope to see others succeed. Since the beginning of my internship, I have been met with warm introductions and welcomes from employees spanning every team at Vibes.  People here are passionate about what they do, and it genuinely shows in every facet of the company.  Another special aspect to the Vibes culture is the entrepreneurial spirit within many teams. As an intern, I am given the opportunity to create my own path, take on projects that pique my interest, and contribute to work that makes an impact.  

What is your favorite part about working with the Product Marketing team?  

What I enjoy most about working on this team is seeing the direct influence our work has throughout every department at Vibes. I am consistently blown away by the expertise and work ethic each member on the Product Marketing team possesses. Everyone challenges each other to think critically, question ideas, and make an impact in all aspects of our work. I immensely value how my team takes time to offer thoughtful advice and equip me with the tools I need to be effective.  

Cynthia Lopez

Cynthia studies Marketing with concentration in Digital Marketing at Golden Gate University in San Francisco. 

Describe what it is like to intern at Vibes? 

Interning at Vibes is a great opportunity and I find it to be unique because I get to learn about mobile trends and how crucial it is in today’s marketing efforts. I enjoy working on many facets of the industry to drive engagement as well as work cross functionally with the team to educate and deliver value to other marketers. I really like that I’m given the opportunity to manage projects, share ideas, and learn from a team that is passionate and truly believes in working together as a team. 

What excites you about the growth of mobile usage? Where do you see the future of mobile marketing headed? 

What excites me about the growth of mobile usage is that with growth comes demand which means more tools will be available to make things more streamlined and easier for the consumer. As consumer I always think this would be so much easier if I could just ….. therefore, for me having access at my fingertips is really convenient and it opens up many opportunities as a marketer. With 5G rolling out on mobileI feel the marketing landscape will become much more technology driven and visual by the utilization of AR technology to market consumers. Soon we will be living in the time of the Jetsons. 

Hanna Lee

Hanna studies Marketing at the University of San Francisco. 

Describe what it is like to intern at Vibes. 

Interning at Vibes is undoubtedly an in-depth, hands-on experience that’s taught me the importance of strategizing and communicating in projection of success. At Vibes, my contributions continuously feel valued while my personal skillset is consistently challenged with the tasks I’m given. The Marketing team always provides me with supportive feedback, and ironically enough, I don’t feel like an intern. With each task comes great responsibility, but I always feel encouraged to explore unique methods of approach all while still being mindful of our company goals. 

What is your favorite part about working with the Marketing team?  

Being surrounded by Marketing experts is nothing short of compelling. I’m encouraged and inspired by the work of those around me, and I’m given feedback that helps me grow as both a marketer and an individual. Day-to-day responsibilities have allowed me to showcase my skillset while also teaching me the importance of collaboration and outreaching for help in gray areas. What really sets the Marketing team apart is their passion and charisma. Being on a team that recognizes quality work while valuing personal well-being is a combination that’s hard to come by. I feel extremely lucky to be part of a team that strives for excellence but understands that the marketing world has its way of surprising you with multifaceted events, unexpected deadlines, and dynamic projects in need of organizational saving.  

Marisa Paat

Marisa studied Digital Arts with a focus in 3D animation and Digital Media at Bowling Green State University, Ohio. 

What is your favorite part about working with the Product Design team? 

My favorite part about working with the Product Design Team is the encouragement and patience given by Jeff, Maggie, Chad, and Brian. Not only have the members of the Product Design Team been extremely welcoming to a newbie such as myself but the Product Design Team has such enthusiasm and fascination when uncovering a new problem/solution or when a new software update has been launched and their genuine reactions reflect that they made the correct career choice and, in-turn, is infectious. This team has definitely inspired me to continue to learn and work within this ecosystem.  

What have you learned so far while interning at Vibes? 

Since interning at Vibes I have learned to embrace problem solving while learning to understand and comprehend the build out of Vibes' design system. I have learned to love and appreciate collaboration and feedback from both my mentors and fellow interns through design sprints and exercises. I strengthened my resolve to empathize on every step of the work flow while learning that what might work well for the user experience may not be ideal for the engineersso compromise must always be open for discussion. After coming from a background of solo freelancing and individual contract work that allowed me to be distant from a team setting, I have learned that working with an actual team requires clear communication both in person and through digital channels 

Siddhant Bhandari

Siddhant studies Human Computer Interaction at Indiana University, Indianapolis. 

Describe what it is like to intern at Vibes. 

When I got the job offer from Jeff Steffgen, Head of Product Design, Vibes for a Summer internship as a UX Designer, I was excited to move to Chicago from Indianapolis to experience the Chicago summer and hone my skills as a UX Designer. A month and a half into my internship I can safely say it has lived up to its expectations. Everyone at Vibes has been super welcoming and helpful. I recently got to attend my first All Hands meeting which was very informative and fun and since this is a quarterly event, I believe it helps maintain a level of transparency within the company. Vibes definitely has some Good vibes! 

What is your favorite part about working with Product Design team? 

I couldn't have asked for a better team to work with. Everyone in the team is super helpful and kind. Within a few weeks of joining I got the opportunity to work on major projects, which has been a great learning experience for me. In addition, I also got to conduct my own design sprint on a new project. Jeff has time and time again made sure that the internship is matching up to my expectations and that I am getting the most out of it, for which I am really thankful. I am glad that I got the opportunity to learn and work with such experienced and passionate team members.  

As an original Vibes intern myself, I witnessed first-hand how valued I was by my team and beyond. Now as I grow my career I look forward to helping mentor other interns like myself.
